♦HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH♦ CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY 1911-2011 …………………………………………………………………………………………………… Dear Parishioner and Friend of Holy Trinity, Imagine, for a moment, the year 1911: William Howard Taft was the 27th President of the United States, there were only 46 stars on the American flag, and there were about 150,000 Greeks in America. In the city of Augusta, 162 Greek immigrants came together to establish the Greek community. Imagine the commitment and vision of these founders - Theo Angelakos, Panos Antonakos, and George Thevaos - as they strived to maintain their faith, values, traditions and customs. Imagine the toil and sweat needed by those involved later in the building of our present church with its acclaimed carved wood iconostasis, humbly created and built by Anthony and Nick Gavalas. Finally, imagine their pride if they were to see us today as we give tribute to all those who sacrificed to establish this church and become a vital part of the Augusta community. The Centennial Anniversary of Holy Trinity is an occasion for celebrations filled with gratitude and reflection on our past, appreciation and faith in the present, and anticipation and hope for the future. It is fitting that our entire parish community be a part of our celebrations by attending the events and sponsoring a place at these events to showcase their family or their business. Opportunities are available for you at different sponsorship levels at all events, on our Centennial website, in the Program Book at our banquet, as well as multi-media recognition during the banquet. Be a part of this by securing your place and becoming a sponsor of the Centennial Anniversary. Histories are not simply buildings – your family, love and support are also history and, as such, your presence as a supporter is important to the success of the celebration.
